Decode an existing part number

Build a new part number

Each sheet offers its own classes; the sheet's note says which are inactive for new design.

Shell and coupling ring material (MIL-DTL-5015H 6.6.2.1): blank for aluminum alloy, S for stainless steel, T for class K ferrous alloy.

Picking an insert arrangement above sets this automatically — or choose a shell size here first to narrow the arrangement picker.

Hermetic class H receptacles only (MS3142): a letter in place of the dash, C solder cup or Y eyelet.

The normal position takes no letter. An alternate position turns the insert inside the shell; which ones an arrangement has, and by how many degrees, comes from MIL-STD-1651.

    Parts list

Tick “Add to parts list” next to any part number above: the connector, its contacts, a mate or an accessory, as you build other connectors. Contact quantities are for one connector; edit the quantity for more. The list clears on reload — copy or download it before you leave the page.

    No parts yet.

Copy list gives part number, quantity and description separated by tabs, for a spreadsheet or a distributor’s paste-a-list form. The CSV has the same columns with a header row.

Check every part number and quantity against the current specification before you buy. Neither this site nor Newark is responsible for errors in generated part numbers; see Part numbers and purchases.

    About this builder

    MIL-DTL-5015 connectors are threaded-coupling, AN-type circular connectors. This builder covers 25 MS sheets: solder-contact sheets such as MS3100, MS3101, MS3102, MS3106 and MS3108, the front-release crimp sheets MS3400 to MS3412, and the rear-release crimp sheets MS3450 to MS3456.

MIL-DTL-5015 and these sheets were canceled in 2009 and replaced by SAE-AS50151 and its sheets. Check a part number against the current SAE revision before you use it on a design.

    Find the mating connector

Build or decode a part number and the builder lists its candidate mating connectors: a plug for a receptacle or a receptacle for a plug, with the same shell size, insert arrangement and polarization or insert position, and the opposite contacts, pins to sockets. Similar plating and Similar contacts narrow the list, and Hermetic switches to the hermetic mates. Add a mate to the parts list with one click, and check it against both detail sheets before you use it.

    Accessories that fit

The Accessories panel lists the backshells, seal plugs and protective covers for the connector you built, and builds each accessory’s part number for that connector’s shell size as you pick its options. Its Dust Caps section names the plastic dust cap the specification calls for, M85049/138, with its status; that sheet is SAE-only, so its part numbers aren’t built here. See M85049 accessories.

Build or decode a part number

Choose the options one field at a time, or paste a part number such as MS3456L18-5SW into Decode to see what each part of it means. Each list offers only the options the specification allows with your earlier choices. Tick “Add to parts list” to collect the connector, its contacts, mates and accessories as you go, then copy the list or download it as CSV.
