Use the EMech WorkBench tool to build or decode supported MIL-DTL-26482 Series 2 connector part numbers. The current builder covers active Series 2 environment-resisting crimp sheets and class N hermetic sheets represented in its data. It includes supported shell styles, insert arrangements, contact fields, and accessory information.

Open the MIL-DTL-26482 Series 2 builder, enter an existing part number to decode it, or select fields to assemble a candidate part number. Options depend on the chosen shell style and the site's available reference data.

Part-number fields and options

Example, with spaces added to make the fields easier to see:

MS3470 L 24 - 61 P W

The spaces are visual separators. In a part number, the fields are normally written together as MS3470L24-61PW.

FieldExampleMeaning and options in the current Series 2 builder
MS number / shell styleMS3470The MS detail sheet and shell style. See the shell-style table below.
ClassLShell material and finish. In Series 2 the class is the finish; there is no separate finish field. See the class table below.
Shell size24The shell-size number itself, 8 through 24 in steps of 2. There is no letter code.
Separator or termination-Environment-resisting classes put a dash here. Hermetic class N puts the termination letter D here instead.
Insert arrangement61The contact layout, from MIL-STD-1669A. Options depend on shell size.
Contact stylePContact gender and supply. See the contact-style table below.
Insert positionWThe angular position of the insert in the shell. The normal position takes no letter.

A hermetic example is MS3477N16D26PW: MS3477, class N, shell size 16, termination D, insert arrangement 26, pin contacts P, insert position W. It has no dash.

Use the builder's field labels and decoder rather than a remembered example, because the valid fields depend on the exact MS sheet and class.

Class codes currently offered

ClassCurrent dataset description
AAluminum, hard anodic (nonconductive), grommet seal; 200 °C
KZinc-nickel alloy, black; conductive, corrosion and fluid resistant; 175 °C
LElectroless nickel; conductive, fluid resistant; replaces class E; 200 °C
TNickel fluorocarbon polymer; conductive, corrosion and fluid resistant; 175 °C
WCadmium plate, olive drab; conductive, corrosion and fluid resistant; 175 °C
DPure electrodeposited aluminum, conductive. Named in the sheet titles but not defined in the base specification: verify before use
NHermetic: tin-plated ferrous alloy shell, crimp termination, conductive; 175 °C

Classes V, AA and AB are defined in the base specification for Series 2 but are not named on the sheets, so the builder does not offer them.

Contact-style codes

CodeFamilyMeaning in the current dataset
PEnvironment resistingPin contacts, supplied with the arrangement's standard contacts
SEnvironment resistingSocket contacts, supplied with the arrangement's standard contacts
AEnvironment resistingLess pin contacts: order the contacts separately
BEnvironment resistingLess socket contacts: order the contacts separately
PHermetic, class NPin contacts, fixed in the insert; the wires crimp to separate SAE-AS39029/22 sockets

Class N receptacles take only size 20 and size 16 contacts, so arrangements with size 12 contacts are not offered in class N.

Insert-position codes

CodePosition
NNormal (no letter in the part number)
WAlternate position W
XAlternate position X
YAlternate position Y
ZAlternate position Z

In an alternate position the pin insert is turned clockwise from the shell's master key or keyway, and the socket insert counterclockwise. The angle depends on the insert arrangement, and not every arrangement offers every position; the builder lists only the positions the selected arrangement has.

What the builder shows

DetailWhat the builder shows
Part numberThe assembled part number and its field-by-field breakdown
ContactsThe contacts for the selected arrangement and contact style
Mating connectorsCandidate mates within Series 2; see Finding a mating connector
AccessoriesM85049 backshells and the MS3180 and MS3181 protective covers; class N receptacles have no rear accessory thread, so no backshell fits them

Current scope and exclusions

ItemCurrent state
Source documentsMIL-DTL-26482J with Amendment 2, the MS sheets above, and MIL-STD-1669A arrangement data
IncludedThe active Series 2 sheets: environment-resisting MS3470, MS3471, MS3472, MS3474, MS3475 and MS3476, plus class N hermetic MS3477 and MS3479
Not includedSeries 1, inactive sheets, the class H solder hermetic sheets, and the canceled MS3473
Mating listSeries 2 only; cross-series mating candidates are not listed

A missing option should not be interpreted as proof that the specification disallows it. Check the exact sheet and interface requirements for the intended connection.

Verify before design release or purchase

The builder is a reference aid, not a compliance determination. Check the latest applicable MIL-DTL-26482 revision, the exact MS detail sheet, insert-arrangement source, contact specification, and manufacturer documentation. Confirm the connector's complete part number, configuration, and availability with the supplier. The site does not currently provide live price or lead-time data.
